How Singing Bowls Can Enhance Self-Hypnosis

02/08/2021

Singing Bowls comes in many shapes and sizes, each bearing its own unique history and traditions. If you have ever sat down to watch a children's chorus line, then you may have noticed that the music is often sung from large bowls, which are known as "choir bowls". The bowls stand upright, with the singer sitting at the top, holding a large cup of liquid and a matching spoon. While most people associate a singing bowl with the ancient tradition of Chinese opera, there is another form of this traditional musical instrument that is more likely to be found in homes across Canada and the United States. It is called a "dummy" or "faux bowl" and is made by pouring molten metal into a hollow material, before forming it into a bowl shape.

While the concept of singing bowls dates back to the early renaissance, today they are used as a focal point in many forms of art and music therapy. In the case of brain healing, the vibrations of the bowl stimulate the different centres of the brain, encouraging the flow of positive energies. Some people who suffer from conditions such as Alzheimer's or dementia have found that regular sessions of this form of relaxation therapy can help them cope with their conditions. In general, these tools are used for sensory integration, because of the way they influence our sense of touch and sound. They are often used in conjunction with massage and other forms of treatments to help promote better health.  Learn more on this link.

The history of singing bowls in the west may be related to the use of such tools in the East, where they are referred to as "tibetan bowls". Tibetan bowls are usually circular and made of black clay. While commonly referred to as "Tibetan singing bowls", they actually come from a variety of Asian countries, including China, India, Nepal, and Tibet. For the purposes of this article, we will refer to them as "singing bowls" or "Tibetan meditation bowls".

Traditionally, the purpose of the bowl is not only to relax you, but also to meditate and enter into a state of relaxation. A bowl session can be an excellent way to facilitate a spiritual healing and relaxation technique. As a result of the focus on sound in most forms of this form of meditation, singing bowls are often used to create a sound environment within the room where the bowl is placed. When the sound is out of tune with the bowl itself, it can detract from the healing process. By creating a balance between the sound and the bowl, the atmosphere can become more relaxed and open to receiving the sound and energy from the bowl.

Another aspect to consider is that bowls are not meant to be a sole source of sound and vibration. They are most effective when combined with other tools such as musical instruments and sound pieces. In fact, some bowls can only produce certain types of sound or vibration. For example, if you use a singing bowl with a piano, it can only produce certain notes or pitches. This is because the mixing of sounds and frequencies requires a certain range of harmonics. The mixing of different instruments such as drums, cymbals and guitars will also enhance the effect.

As previously mentioned, singing bowls are used as a tool to induce a state of relaxation. It is important to realize that the sound and vibrations are not intended to replace other therapies or traditional medication. These tools are simply meant to add another layer of dimension to the environment. The sound and vibrations of these bowls are intended to stimulate the autonomic nervous system so that the person is better able to experience the physical, emotional and spiritual changes that take place. Singing bowls are not intended to replace hypnosis, Reiki, acupuncture or other forms of alternative therapy, but they do possess some unique qualities that make them an excellent addition to anyone's home for self-hypnosis and relaxation.
